Vice President of Litigation Job
The candidate serves as chief legal advisor for litigation activities and functions, counsels management on the legal implications of corporate and divisional activities and issues; develops and implements legal strategies, manages legal services as required in pending or potential litigation proceedings. Obtains the services of outside counsel as required to complement available internal legal resources. Serves as a member of the Legal Leadership team working with Global General Counsel in various areas including department culture, development of talent and budget initiatives. Provides global, strategic counsel to the business regarding litigation risk-based assessments for the company’s current product portfolio and future technology plans. Ensures close cross-collaboration with internal commercial teams, clinical, corporate research and development and business development teams in implementing company’s pipeline growth and long-term commercialization strategy such that litigation risks are minimized. Works closely with Legal Operations to evaluate case analytics, cost, firm selection and management of firms to minimize legal spend while maximizing positive outcomes. Creates and implements fiscally-responsible, global litigation strategy with consideration of resources, including managing global litigation matters in a cost-effective manner. Works closely with Finance, Corporate Communications and Investor Relations to ensure appropriate proactive disclosures and communications are made regarding litigation. Manages and addresses e-discovery issues in a manner that is efficient, effective and minimizes impact to the business. Works with the Chief Patent Counsel in management of strategic IP litigation, directing outside counsel and participating in developing comprehensive legal strategies. Manages team of highly-skilled litigation professionals. Fosters an organizational structure and design for busines,continuity. Responsible for recruiting, coaching and developing organizational talent. Fosters a diverse workplace that enables all participants to contribute to their full potential in pursuit of organizational objectives. Creates an entrepreneurial environment. Keeps the organization’s vision and values at the forefront of decision making and action. Demonstrates effective change leadership. Builds strategic partnerships with internal and external executive level management, as well as outside counsel to further organizational objectives. Builds effective relationships with outside counsel focused on creative legal solutions and alternative fee arrangements. Monitors and ensures compliance with company policies and procedures. Makes and executes operational decisions with a strategic perspective. Proactively looks for opportunities to become more efficient in a resource-constrained environment. Reviews, advises on, investigates and resolves significant legal matters.

Qualification and Experience

A J.D. and active bar license required, along with a Bachelor’s degree and/or advanced degree. Must have 15+ years’ experience (device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology preferred), including managing a broad range of litigation matters and experience in a managerial capacity. IP litigation experience preferred. Must have demonstrated business acumen, strong analytical skills, and the ability to grasp important business, legal and financial issues facing the Company. Must approaches litigation with a strategic mindset by anticipating future business, competitive and legal risks and looking for creative solutions and opportunities. Should have demonstrated understanding of international litigation landscape/laws. Experience managing a substantial budget and legal operations functions is preferred. Must have strong executive presence, communication and writing skills/
