AVP Litigation Counsel The candidate will be responsible for Regional strategic direction, leadership and general management of the Claim Litigation Counsel (i.e., firm's Staff Counsel). Will be responsible for oversight of 8 States totaling 11 offices delivering legal representation to our Commercial and Specialty customers. In addition, part of the leadership team and partner with Claim and non-Claim business partners as we seek to provide value added representation for our customers. Responsible for direction and management of Litigation Counsel Offices in assigned region(s). Ensures effective implementation of strategic objectives and policies for legal support in assigned regional offices, in accordance with the company's strategic plans. Implements strategic objectives with substantial impact on the short-term success for Litigation Counsel Offices in assigned region(s). Works to contain legal expenses in assigned region(s) through effective allocation of personnel, materials and equipment. Leads, directs and has full management accountability for staff in area of responsibility with an emphasis on optimizing talent and succession planning in accordance with corporate strategic direction. Acts as liaison to the Claims department to ensure maximum file referrals to Staff Counsel. Reports to senior management on a regular basis on performance and/or any emerging or current issues. May perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Bachelor's degree with JD and a license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction, or equivalent. Must have 10 years of practicing law including insurance defense, with 5+ years management experience. Applicable certifications preferred. In-depth technical knowledge of theories and practices within insurance law, regulatory issues, litigation and working knowledge in other related fields is required. Must have ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility, team and/or matrix environment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software is required. Uses Metrics and information analysis and accesses technology resources as needed.
