Legal Assistant IV (SCA) The candidate will be copying, scanning, and organizing legal materials, case filings, and office documents in both paper and electronic formats. Will be scheduling meetings, depositions, reserving conference rooms, and arranging for video teleconferences. Preparing domestic travel requests for assigned attorneys. Reserving interpreters, ordering transcripts and completing forms to procure expert witnesses. Sending, filing, logging, locating, and tracking internal and external office correspondence and court files. Opening/closing civil case files in electronic databases; initiating case opening/closing paperwork. Updating the CaseView docketing system with case events. Reviewing and scheduling workload to ensure the efficient use of time and resources. Preparing subpoenas and forms using office templates along with accompanying budget forms; drafting basic legal documents and correspondence. Proofreading legal documents for accuracy, proper format, spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Working with attorneys, paralegals, litigation support, and permanent legal assistants to organize and prepare documents, exhibits, pleadings, and briefs in paper and electronic format for court hearings, trials, appeals and post-conviction motions. Compliance with DOJ's ethics and standards of conduct policies and procedures, abide by the USAOâ€™s professional responsibility obligations, conduct with integrity, and maintain a professional demeanor. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Communicate with attorneys, paralegals, court personnel, client agencies, expert witnesses and court reporters to obtain or provide information in support of civil litigation. Must have of a high school diploma and 2+ years of related work experience. College degree is preferred. Prior knowledge of and experience with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and the United States Code is preferred. Must have the ability to perform basic functions in software applications such as Microsoft (MS) Outlook, MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, and possess basic data entry skills while working with databases and specialized office systems. Communication skills are extremely important.
