Staff Attorney The candidate will prepares legal memorandum on case dis positive and emergency motions, complex procedural motions, bar discipline matters, original actions, and other miscellaneous matters; Performs legal analysis and issue identification of assigned matters; Screens new cases for jurisdiction and provide assistance to the Court's judicial and non-legal staff; Drafts concise and well-reasoned memorandum that include an appropriate dis positional recommendation; Responds to inquiries from judicial officers, non-legal staff and inquiries from the public consistent with office policy; Conducts peer review of colleagues’ work, legal research on disciplinary matters and screening of new appeals for any jurisdictional defects; Responsible for special projects such as committee work, development and updating of training materials and informational materials for the public.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have a law degree from an accredited university or college plus 3+ years of legal experience is preferred; must possess an active D.C. Bar membership in good standing, or be eligible to waive into the D.C. Bar. Documentation of education and bar membership or eligibility must be included with the application; Must have strong research and writing skills, the ability to multi-task, and technical expertise in Microsoft Word and legal research software; should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts’ values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect, and Transparency.
