Paralegal II The candidate will be performing tasks assigned by manager/supervisor. Will work under the supervision and assigned duties delegated by our RCB Managing Attorney. Responsible for carrying out any other tasks, administrative or otherwise, that the RCB Operations and Evaluation Manager so directs in collaboration with the Rural Capacity Building Team. Responsible for handling incoming mail. This includes sorting and forwarding mail to RCB attorneys and other staff, as well as documenting and tracking received correspondence related to client cases. Copy documents for attorneys and clients. Maintain deadlines using case management system. Assist the Legal Support Team with preparing, tracking, copying and sending outgoing mail when necessary. Responsible for handling attorney requests to open new cases, or close existing cases. Maintain and update case count information and data tracking as cases are opened and closed. Update and document client interactions and internal case status in case management system regularly. Assist Legal Support Team in receiving client intakes, processing intake information, and scheduling first-time consultations when necessary. Prepare for USCIS interviews, including, general file review and summary, English to Spanish and Spanish to English interpreting, drafting of witness questions and trial preparation documents, and attendance at both interviews and hearings when necessary. Translate forms, letters, declarations, and foreign documents for clients (Spanish and English). Prepare, copy and mail applications to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for legal staff and assist with filing incoming and outgoing mail. Draft documents, including assisting in the preparation of forms, statements, affidavits, cover letters, motions, petitions, briefs, and appeals. Perform legal research, including, obtaining statistics and information related in general to any immigration issue, reviewing government-based websites related to immigration law or policy, carrying out statutory and case law review via traditional or non-traditional sources, and analyzing any other research issue deemed relevant. Communicate firm intake process and services to interested community members. Communicate and advocate needs of clients to staff and other community partners when appropriate. Communicating messages from clients to legal representatives and vice versa. Refer clients (existing, potential, and walk-ins) to proper community resources. Assist in the coordination of RCB program activities between Omaha and RCB offices. Provide administrative support for RCB offices and evaluation activities. Occasionally be requested to assist other staff members with duties as assigned. Occasionally represent firm at community events and functions, when assigned.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have Bachelor’s degree or Associates degree in relevant field. Should be fluent in English and Spanish. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software package such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher. Ability to learn legal case management software is needed. Previous administrative assistant, or legal assistant work is preferred. Familiarity with case management is desired. Familiarity with Office 365 is a plus. Basic knowledge of immigrant’s rights and/or immigration law is helpful.
