A law firm in Raleigh, NC, is seeking a Patent Agent with a minimum of 2 years of experience in computer science or electrical engineering. The ideal candidate will collaborate with inventors and attorneys to prepare and prosecute patent applications, specifically focusing on emerging technologies. The role involves identifying inventions through technical discussions, performing searches, drafting comprehensive patent applications, negotiating with the Patent Office, and managing patent portfolios.
Duties
- Patent Preparation and Prosecution: Work with inventors and attorneys to prepare and prosecute patent applications.
- Technology Focus: Direct efforts towards emerging technologies such as data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, wireless communications, sensors, semiconductors, and the Internet of Things.
- Invention Identification: Identify inventions through technical discussions with inventors.
- Search and Analysis: Perform novelty and clearance searches to distinguish inventions from the current state of the art.
- Negotiation: Collaborate with attorneys to negotiate the scope of rights afforded by patent applications with the Patent Office.
- Documentation: Prepare reports and support documentation to assist in the management of patent portfolios.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Patent Agent.
- Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science.
- Technical Experience: Relevant technical experience in data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, wireless communications, sensors, semiconductors, Internet of Things, or equivalent sectors is a plus.
