Claims Counsel
Duties: Management of Claim Files. Claim Prevention Efforts. Speak at seminars and meetings to educate title attorneys, branches, and agents regarding relevant claim information, experiences, and sources of claims, to educate and create awareness of claims and claims prevention. Review the claims experience from branch offices, individual approved attorneys, agents, and searchers, and make recommendations for remedial action. Work with operating and marketing managers and staff attorneys to analyze and resolve issues identified. Assist VP, Managing Claims Counsel in formulating claims administration policy and maintaining claims manual.

Qualification and Experience Qualifications: Excellent legal academic record and demonstrated work ethic, with four or more years of legal experience in a firm or corporate setting. Knowledge and experience in litigation, foreclosures, collections and bankruptcy. Knowledge of real estate law and the real estate settlement process. Knowledge of title policy terms, coverage, exceptions and an understanding of the dynamics of the North Carolina approved attorney system. Ability to exercise independent business and legal judgment to creatively solve complex legal and business problems. Effective time management skills including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities. Strong writing and computer skills. Ability to conduct thorough but efficient factual and legal investigation and develop recovery and claims resolution strategies accordingly. Ability to effectively interact with coworkers, attorneys, insureds, opposing counsel and public, while maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor. Public speaking skills.
