Commercial Legal Assistant-Paralegal Duties: Review of contested files for determination of next course of action and proceeding as appropriate. Drafting and preparation of legal documents, such as Complaints, Applications for Default Judgment, Motions for Summary Judgment and Motions to Compel Discovery and discovery responses. Assisting attorneys in litigation, including counterclaims, court documents, scheduling of court hearings and hearing preparation. Handles client inquiries and updates pertaining to individual files. Review and interpret disclosure agreements, credit applications, equipment leases, engagement letters, service agreements, etc. Maintains files, hearing notices, agendas, calendaring, etc. for each departmental attorney. Follow up with courts and other legal departments regarding filed documents and hearings. Other duties as required by the attorneys and department.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: 2 years' formal legal training or equivalent experience preferred. College Degree in Business, Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies or related field preferred. 3+ years’ experience in attorney support and/or the collection legal field preferred. Experience in drafting pleadings, adversary attorney correspondence, and other related documents. Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook. Organizational, verbal and written communication skills a must. Typing and keyboarding experience with 70+ WPM required. Strong attention to detail, the ability work independently, multi-task is required. Collection Law knowledge is helpful. Ability to work in high pressure situations regarding opposing counsel and the firm’s attorneys.

Management should be accountable for their actions. Stop playing the blame game. Pay people what they are worth.

Pros : The people here are wonderful and have been here for years. You get a lot of knowledge in legal processes and time management.
Cons : The work load is unrealistic and the pay is not worth the stress. Management is immature.
