Assistant General Counsel - Labor & Employment Job Responsibilities: Provide day-to-day counseling on employment and labor matters to Human Resources partners. Mentor, manage and develop another employment lawyer. Advise Human Resources and business partners on employee relations matters, including claims that involve: Title VII, FLSA, ADAAA, FMLA, ADEA, sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, among others. Draft and advise on offer letters, employment agreements, separation agreements, and termination agreements, as well as other human resources-related agreements. Remain informed and provide training on legal, regulatory and other developments in the employment law and Compliance arena; anticipate their potential impact on the company’s operations and strategy; and provide counsel to business and human resources to effectively manage these issues. Collaborate with business partners to monitor recent major enforcement actions and compliance trends; informing business partners of these developments and incorporating them as appropriate into the company’s training and policies. Represent and defend the company in agency matters where appropriate. Strategically manage outside counsel in their representation of the company in employment-related litigation, including managing to budgets. Track and maintain log of ongoing litigations. Advise Compensation and Benefits team on employee benefits and compensation matters. Keep General Counsel informed and consulted on all material labor and employment matters.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: JD Degree from top law school. 10+ years’ experience; some retail business experience preferred. Practical approach to counselling business partners. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Robust sense of humor. Demonstrated collaborative skills and ability to work within a team environment. Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management. Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting. Ability to use matter management systems and MS Office applications.
