Health Law Judge
The candidate will conduct telephone status conferences to create and subsequently enforce the case schedule (Scheduling Order); Manage the discovery process by establishing dates for identifying witnesses and exhibits, deadlines for discovery, settlement and dis positive motions, pre hearing conferences and the hearing; which, are all intended to assist the parties in preparing for hearing; Facilitate the resolution of issues by analyzing motions and exhibits, hearing oral arguments (as necessary) and conveying timely rulings on motions regarding witnesses and documentary and testimonial evidence; Draft and issue sound orders that resolve and memorialize the remaining preliminary legal, procedural and evidentiary issues before the hearing; Conduct adjudicative proceedings within the framework of the Administrative Procedures Act, the Uniform Disciplinary Act, and the applicable laws and regulations governing cases before the Department; Communicate effectively with parties who have limited English proficiency and interpreters to ensure that access to justice is maintained and the proceedings are understood; Decide the legal issues and serve as the Trier of fact in Secretary Cases; Issue legal rulings and aid the tiers of fact during deliberations in cases brought to Boards and Commissions.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have J.D. degree from an accredited law school; Must have admission in good standing to practice law in the State of Washington; Must have 3+ years of litigation, trial practice or full-time judicial experience within the past seven years; Must have demonstrated knowledge of the Washington Administrative Procedure Act, Washington State Rules of Evidence, Uniform Disciplinary Act, Chapter 246-08 WAC, Chapter 246-10 WAC, and Chapter 246-11 WAC; Must have demonstrated computer software skills and experience using MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS PowerPoint.
