ProfileAttorney - Housing and Homelessness Prevention Unit Duties: Provide quality legal services to low-income residents of Orange County and work collaboratively with other staff to serve low-income residents. Work directly with Directing Attorney, other members of the Housing Unit, and the Director of Litigation, Advocacy, and Training in a wide variety of tasks involved in complex litigation related to the housing needs for low-income Orange County residents, including where applicable, investigation, factual and legal research, discovery, briefing, witness preparation, and oral and written advocacy. Engage in policy advocacy, coordinate or collaborate in policy campaigns with partner community-based organizations, conduct legal research and provide legal services to improve access to and preservation of affordable housing opportunities for low-income residents. Handle a case load of individual housing related matters, including, but not limited to matters involving eviction defense and administrative hearing representation. Oversee case referrals and provide support to pro bono attorneys. Conduct community education presentations to clients, partner agencies, and service providers. Assist with periodic compilation of data related to grant funding. Represent at legal networking and community outreach events. Occasional evening and weekend work required.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: Active membership in the California State Bar. Bilingual English/Spanish fluency. Experience in eviction defense law required. Experience in land use issues and knowledge of real property and federally subsidized housing programs strongly preferred. Ability to present legal concepts to audiences of varying sophistication. Excellent public speaking skills. Commitment to working with volunteer lawyers and law students. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to attend evening meetings as needed.
