Legal Counsel Responsibilities: Engage in written and oral advocacy at the UN and related institutions. Create high-level alliances with government representatives and other allies. Work collectively with allies and build coalitions to promote a vision of authentic human rights at the UN. Draft interventions and submissions for the UN and related institutions. Write scholarly articles, present at conferences, and conduct training events. Work effectively and creatively to achieve tangible success in UN processes. Other Responsibilities (Non-Essential): Work cross-team to coordinate advocacy efforts; support other teams as needed. Cooperate with Development team, including at speaking engagements and other events. Interact with media regarding advocacy matters and issues. Advise and work with allied lawyers on legal issues within areas of competence. Network and develop relationships with allied lawyers and organizations. Perform other related duties or special projects as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree or equivalent. Academic excellence. Multiple languages preferred. Relevant experience or work in human rights/the religious liberty area. Proven track record of success. High relational and interpersonal skills and social intelligence. Competence in computer equipment and technological software. Ability to: Write and speak with excellence in English. Both lead and support others. Comfortably work with persons of all Christian denominations, including Roman Catholic leaders. Research and draft sophisticated memos, interventions, and submissions at the highest level for related institutions. Prepare and deliver oral presentations with excellence. Engage in debates and be able to counter arguments “on your feet”. Develop and implement strategy and tactics for succeeding on our issues at the related institutions. Build coalitions and develop and maintain key relationships, allies, and alliances. Deadline: open until August.
