Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is seeking a Junior Level Associate to join its Education, Nonprofits & Government practice group. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on a broad range of legal matters, including public agency transparency laws, education law, and nonprofit law. Location:

Duties:

  • Advise clients on public agency transparency laws, including the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and Political Reform Act
  • Provide legal counsel on education law, including TK-12 public schools and charter schools
  • Assist with nonprofit law matters
  • Handle legal issues involving labor and employment matters
  • Participate in civil litigation, including writs of mandate, civil restraining orders, and special education due process litigation
  • Conduct independent research and analyze complex legal issues
  • Draft demand letters, litigation documents, governing board resolutions, and client communications
  • Collaborate across practice areas to address client needs and support team development

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in education, nonprofit, and/or public agency law
  • Strong knowledge of public agency laws such as the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and Political Reform Act
  • Experience in education law, with a preference for charter school exposure
  • Familiarity with nonprofit law and TK-12 school laws (both state and federal)
  • Exposure to labor and employment law is a plus
  • Civil litigation experience, especially in administrative or education-related matters, is beneficial
  • Proven ability to conduct research, analyze legal issues, and draft clear, concise legal documents
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • California bar admission required

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Strong academic performance

Certifications:

  • California bar membership

Skills:

  • Knowledge of public agency, education, and nonprofit law
  • Experience with laws governing TK-12 public schools and charter schools
  • Ability to research complex legal issues independently
  • Drafting skills for demand letters, litigation documents, resolutions, and client communications
  • Familiarity with labor and employment law and civil litigation processes
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent judgment, proactive approach, and collaborative mindset
