Legal Assistant The candidate will provide key litigation support to the Labor and Employment litigation team. Will be handling case intake processes, managing data collection, distributing legal hold orders and questionnaires, preparing invoices, reporting on case analytics, and administering vendor contracts. Under the direction of an attorney and litigation manager, applies proficient knowledge to provide support for the investigative process of a case by gathering documents and information for legal assignments. Works under limited supervision to conduct research and analyze documents to prepare reports of findings and formulate alternatives. Evaluates risk of alternatives and calculates costs of potential liability and assesses benefits/drawbacks. Provides findings to the assigned attorney and litigation manager. Under the direction of an attorney, prepares drafts of legal documents such as discovery responses, affidavits, motions, corporate minutes, contracts and other legal documents. Performs complex to moderately complex work assignments and problem resolution. Applies proficient knowledge to ensure proper filing of documents with regulatory authorities, courts, other tribunals, and monitors status. Prepares presentations and briefing material on topics relevant to USAA business. Assembles documents and prepares charts, graphs, and other visual aids to be used as exhibits. Guides team members in their delivery of their work products. Oversees management and maintenance of case files per the attorney's and litigation managerâ€™s specifications; may assist with administrative tasks to include, calendar responsibilities to ensure all deadlines are met; check writing, check requesting, copying, and handling mail as necessary to ensure continuous business operations. Acts as a liaison between attorney and outside counsel in the exchange of information. Serves as a resource to less experienced team members. Other tasks as assigned. Must have High school diploma or GED equivalency. Should have 2+ years of legal support or equivalent experience. Must preferably have 5+ years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department. Labor and Employment law experience preferred. Paralegal certificate desired. Microsoft certification a plus. Experience with case management tools, project management, invoicing, and budgeting systems preferred. Experience with SharePoint or similar team collaboration tools desired.
