Assistant General Counsel, Pharma and Biotech The candidate will manage small team responsible for supporting the North American legal affairs of the Pharma and Biotech segment. Will develop team and ensure duties and responsibilities are satisfactorily executed. Assure the availability, continuity and quality of competent, timely and cost efficient legal services. Demonstrate strategic value and competence in applying legal skills to daily in-house corporate, business, compliance and other matters. Provide legal review, advice, and support on a broad range of legal matters including strategic transactional documents, contracting, licensing, transactional and general corporate matters across Pharma and Biotech segment. Work closely with all business functions and senior management. Actively assist company in achieving business objectives. Supervise outside counsel and related budgets, as needed. Identify areas of company risk and make proposals for and lead implementation of mitigation strategies. Have significant responsibility for a diverse range of commercial, legal, and compliance matters, including high profile, complex matters.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a J.D. degree and 15+ years of general commercial transactional experience at a major law firm or corporate in-house legal department. In-house legal department experience preferred. Life sciences, pharma and FDA compliance experience are pluses. Should have experience and practical skills in commercial transactional matters. Must have excellent judgment and ability to operate in a fast-paced, small legal department on a broad range of commercial and legal matters with a primary focus on negotiating complex contractual arrangements with customers and vendors, typically in connection with services and goods. Should have willingness to travel and work extended hours, as needed. Admission and membership in good standing to the Bar of at least one state is essential.
