ProfileAssistant Counsel The candidate will work under the direction of BLA business team managers, with latitude for independent judgment and unreviewed action and decision-making. Will handle complex matters relating to real estate, contracts, property, and other business issues, primarily related to the protection of the watershed. Assist with land acquisition (either through negotiation or condemnation) in connection with firmâ€™s watershed protection program as well as infrastructure construction projects. In addition, the attorney will review, draft, and negotiate agreements; assist with drafting, reviewing and interpreting easements; and counsel the agencyâ€™s business and technical staff to ensure that the â€™s interests are adequately protected. Interfacing with outside parties, including contractors, consultants, property owners, the public, and other government agencies, as well as liaising with the Law Department. Admission to the New York State Bar; and either "2" or "3" below is needed. Should have 1 year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state Bar; or 6 months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086). Must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the Bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. Should have 2+ years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the Bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. Excellent writing, research, analytical and oral communication skills are needed. Experience with the negotiation of complex and technical agreements and real property transactions are needed.
