Medical Legal Partnership Attorney Responsibilities: Build capacity and structure for the Colorado Medical Legal Partnership program, including development of forms, education, processes that will serve the community served. Provide direct legal services to low-income patients to improve health and wellbeing for the vulnerable in accordance with program priorities and case handling policies. Services range from providing routine legal advice to patients/clients to more extensive direct representation for the patient/client in civil matters including public benefits, SSI/SSDI, access to health insurance, guardianships and other probate court matters, employment, housing, consumer rights, disability rights, education, and domestic violence. Client representation will include interviews, negotiations with opposing parties/government agencies, research and writing, and direct representation at administrative and court proceedings before state and federal courts and administrative agencies. Train healthcare providers, hospital staff, and community partners on how to identify legal needs jeopardizing the health of low-income patients. Create a system for tracking, triaging, and managing internal referrals from health care providers. Customize and operate a case management database for running conflict checks, screening for financial eligibility, and storing case notes, time records, and client information. Work collaboratively with healthcare providers to identify and address the most important individual and systemic problems that impact their low-income patients. Consult with healthcare providers regarding advocacy on behalf of their low-income patients to support a cross-disciplinary, comprehensive approach to address patients’ health-harming civil-legal needs. Collaborate with Financial Navigators to identify areas where legal services will improve patients’ access to third-party health insurance coverage (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid). Conduct outreach and collaborate with Colorado legal, social services, and community service providers to promote statewide resource sharing and best practices in the delivery of legal services. Resolve specific problems for individual patients, while also helping healthcare staff navigate system and policy barriers and transform institutional practices. Ensure compliance with requirements imposed by grant funders, including preparation and submission of quarterly and annual reports.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Licensed attorney holding a J.D. from an accredited law school. Admission to the Colorado State Bar or eligibility for admission by motion or transfer. 2+ years' experience practicing law.
Shift: Monday through Friday; 8am to 12 pm
Duration: 12 months
