Legal Intern The candidate will conduct legal research and draft legal deliverables to assist the City Attorney’s Office with representation of the municipality. Maintain updated knowledge of applicable federal, state and local law in order to review, interpret and apply such laws to the municipal government. Research and draft City ordinances, resolutions, administrative policies and other similar documents. Communicate with City staff, elected and appointed officials, and others to determine needs, limitations and provisions of such documents. Prepare memoranda and educational and outreach materials related to such documents. Establish and maintain cooperative, effective relationships with City staff and elected and appointed officials. Under the supervision of the Chief City Prosecutor, assist the City in the Manhattan Municipal Court as permitted by the State of Kansas and as directed by the Chief City Prosecutor. Attend meetings of City staff, the governing body and City boards and committees. Perform other duties as assigned by the City Attorney. Must be a candidate in good standing for a JD degree at an accredited law school. Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or its equivalent. Must be eligible for and obtain a State of Kansas Rule 719 license. Must have a valid driver’s license. Should preferably have Interest and/or experience in government law. Starting date: March 30. 2018.
