Legal Assistant I The candidate provides paralegal support. Performs complex legal tasks and maintains confidentiality of sensitive correspondence and communications. Assists in drafting legal documents and reviewing for proper phraseology, content, completeness, legal format and accuracy. Administers a statewide program processing out of state citations in compliance with state laws, rules and regulations. Coordinates agency litigation document preservation program in compliance with state laws, rules and regulations. Composes, edits and types correspondence, memoranda and miscellaneous reports. Coordinates logistical support for meetings and hearings. Coordinates travel for legal staff and assists in preparing travel vouchers. Delivers or directs delivery of subpoenas to witnesses and parties to action. Maintains a calendar for others and coordinates meetings with departments officials and outside parties. Maintains file system, assorted logs, manuals, legal files, monitors time and leave records for correct coding and accuracy, makes photocopies and answers telephone. Coordinates training for the legal section; reviews training materials and recommends attendance by attorneys to meet state bar and departmental requirements. Researching, analyzing and interpreting policies and state and federal laws and regulations. Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups. Must have Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies or Legal Assistance Discipline. Must have 3 years of experience in Paralegal, Legal Assistant activities. College education may be substituted for Experience on a year per year basis.
