Legal Fellow, Reproductive Rights and Health
Duties: The Fellow will assist in the Center’s legal and policy work to expand access to birth control at the state and federal level and in the Center’s response to attacks on birth control. Will be responsible for operating, maintaining and analyzing results of the Center’s national hotline on women’s preventive health services, including birth control. Gathering, summarizing, and analyzing research and data from legal and non-legal sources. Analyzing policy proposals at the state and federal levels. Drafting reports, factsheets, blogs, and other written materials. Working with national and state-based coalitions on legislative and regulatory matters. Coordinating with Center staff and pro bono counsel to support litigation on birth control issues. Conducting intake for national hotline, maintaining intake database and recommending database structure changes, as necessary. Responding to hotline inquiries via email and phone, and working with senior attorneys on responses as appropriate. Identifying, tracking, and identifying trends in birth control coverage problems or successes, to the extent needed, but no less frequently than monthly. Assisting in hotline promotion.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: A minimum of a Law degree and admission to a state Bar with ability to waive into the DC Bar. Strong research, analytical, oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Experience dealing with the public. Demonstrated experience and judgment working both collaboratively and independently. Knowledge of the Affordable Care Act or private health insurance a plus. A commitment to progressive women’s issues.
