Profile

Legal Secretary Duties: The candidate will use a variety of secretarial skills, including preparing a variety of legal documents. Under the general direction of the Chief Counsel, the Legal Secretary performs the full range of general legal secretarial duties for BCDC attorneys, provides complex clerical support for other BCDC sections, and provides back-up as needed to the other secretaries at BCDC. Types, formats, and files for administrative proceedings and coordinates and schedules legal support services with specific instruction when required.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification :
The candidate should have Either I 1+ year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Senior Legal Typist, Range B.
Or II
Should have 2+ years of experience in a private law firm, corporate law office, or a legal program in a governmental agency performing a full range of legal secretarial duties, which requires the preparation of legal documents for filing and service. Must have an understanding of the judicial process, Department and legal procedures and practices, and multiple and specialized areas of law; proper format of State and Federal citations; use of legal resources from traditional library references and software applications. Must have interest in assuming increasing responsibility, mature judgment, loyalty, poise, tact, and discretion. Education equivalent to completion of the 12th grade is desirable. Skill is required in document production using a variety of software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat and other electronic databases is essential. Must have good oral and written communication, accurate word processing and proofreading, successfully meeting deadlines, communicating effectively with members of BCDC staff, the Commission and the public, and understanding modern office methods and specific BCDC office policies and procedures. Must have a valid typing certificate.
