Counsel III The candidate will serve as Brand Marketing and Intellectual Property Attorney. Will support the company's work on company-wide in-language projects including legal review of marketing materials, customer communications and customer experience strategy and other language initiatives. Provide strategic legal support for brand, marketing, trademark, copyright and related intellectual property matters to all business groups within company. Work directly with the Enterprise Translation and Corporate Communications teams, who are responsible for development, management and governance of in-language projects and communications. Work closely with the legal team to provide support to all business lines on intellectual property matters including copyright and right of publicity. Lead and support enterprise in-language strategy and projects. Develop expertise in company’s in-language governance, guidelines and glossaries. Assist in development and legal review of high volume of marketing materials and customer communications in Spanish. Collaborate, communicate and liaise with subject matter experts across the company. Develop consistent processes and controls across languages and lines of business. Serve as a subject matter expert on Spanish language marketing, servicing and communications. Provide legal support for contractual issues that arise on in-language issues. Direct and manage work with outside counsel related to in-language projects and reviews. Build relationships with key internal business units whose work is impacted by marketing and in-language issues. Develop tools, policies, processes, resources and checklists for use by legal and business clients as needed. Participate in industry working groups as appropriate to gain an understanding of legal risks and trends. Provide strategic counseling and support for a broad range of trademark, copyright, right of publicity and other related marketing and intellectual property matters. Offer sound strategies and solutions to novel legal issues in the emerging media space. Provide client training and policy development and enforcement on intellectual property and marketing matters. Conduct training on brand, marketing, trademark, copyright, social media, reputation and/or other legal topics. Support team or company-wide legal or strategic projects and initiatives, as necessary.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have 5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney and active State Bar membership. Extensive knowledge and understanding of research, counsel, and guidance on complex legal questions or inquiries is preferred. Combination of law firm and in-house experience is desired. Experience with a financial services company (or willingness to quickly learn about the financial services industry) is an asset. Experience with a broad range of marketing and consumer protection laws including those impacting social media a plus. Familiarity with and ability to educate on linguistic concepts such as transcreation, translation and transliteration is an asset. Knowledge of copyright law is a plus. Experience or willingness to learn about developing corporate policies, processes and procedures is preferred. Experience providing direction, guidance, training and resources to paralegals and/or relevant support staff is desired. Bilingual speaking, reading, and writing proficiency in Spanish/English skills are required. Application Deadline: June 26, 2019.
