Paralegal The candidate will provides paralegal and administrative support to the Director of Risk Management. Will assumes increasing responsibility for providing guidance and support for various Hunterdon Health System activities and issues, such as supporting contract management/drafting/review, compliance with state and federal health laws and regulations, enterprise risk management, business transactions, governance, HIPAA, privacy and security, real estate transactions, tax-exemption, human resources/civil rights, patient care issues, hospital medical staff matters, bioethics, payor contracting and population health, medical malpractice, policy development and review, and insurance. Participates in monitoring legislative and regulatory developments and providing education to staff. Triages and tracks requests/matters that are addressed to the legal and risk management departments ( i.e., discovery materials, depositions notices, deposition exhibits and summaries). Schedules lawyers and staff members for depositions. Accepts service of legal documents. Conducts legal research as directed. Assists in preparing suits/claims for notification to the insurance carriers. Investigates Incident/event reports as assigned and prepares investigative documents. Reports to regulatory agencies as directed, NJDOH and CMS. Works collaboratively with other departments while investigating claims and suits. Provides assistance in responding to discovery requests related to claims/suits. Conducts Root Cause Analysis and reports to the Patient Safety Reporting System. Manages all contracts, interacts with contract owners, provides education to contract owners, manages contract templates, reviews and drafts basic contracts, develops policies and procedures. Provides support for contracting with employed and independent providers. Participates in monitoring legal developments, including proposed and existing legislation and regulations, and provides education to staff. Assists in drafting a variety of correspondence, documents editing bylaws, preparing minutes, resolutions, policies, procedures and forms. Maintains and coordinates calendar. Accurately process all computer data. Maintains legal and administrative files. Handles incoming phone calls. Opens and distributes mail. Acts as a notary where needed.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Bachelors Degree in healthcare law, risk management or related field; or Associates Degree with Paralegal Certificate. Must have 3 years of experience in legal or risk management. Contract administration with ability to mark up contracts and other documents via computer is required. Experience in a hospital or health care setting is preferred. Certificate in Paralegal Studies is plus. Knowledge of project management principals is plus
