Senior Counsel Patent The candidate will be gaining a solid understanding of firm Life Sciencesâ€™ businesses, technology and product goals and challenges in order to create and execute appropriate intellectual property strategies to facilitate those goals and minimize those challenges.. Will be developing and curating a strategic, global, intellectual property portfolio (including patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets). Performing due diligence and freedom to operate for new technologies and products. Negotiating, drafting and reviewing agreements such as licenses, research agreements, collaboration agreements, confidentiality agreements and material transfer agreements. Advising on and supporting adversarial proceedings such as IP litigation, European Oppositions and U.S. IPRs. Managing outside counsel and other resource utilization for value and efficiency. Providing legal advice for marketing teams including review of promotional content. Assisting with M&A from due diligence to documentation depending on the situation and background. Deliver training to address knowledge needs in relevant areas of intellectual property law for the applicable employee audience. Building collaborative relationships within the firm Life Sciencesâ€™ legal team and Danaherâ€™s legal community. Providing legal advice and counsel to R&D and business personnel on a variety of IP related matters. Willing to work on the smallest and simplest, as well as the most complex, legal matters faced by the company. Occasional domestic and international travel will be required. An advanced degree in a biological science, biochemistry, chemistry or other field relevant to life sciences is strongly preferred. JD degree with excellent academic credentials from an accredited law school. Active Bar membership in good standing in one US jurisdiction is needed. Admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is essential. Should have 10 years of intellectual property legal experience either within a law firm. Approaches IP with a strategic mindset by anticipating future business, competitive and legal risks, and looks for creative solutions and opportunities are needed. Strong communication skills; able to work and communicate effectively with all levels of employees and simply explain complex IP issues in business/non-legal term is needed.
