Associate Counsel - Global Legal Technology Responsibilities: Structure and negotiate agreements and relationships with vendors, partners, and other third parties related to technology, including but not limited to intellectual property licenses, order management system and SaaS agreements, hardware and maintenance agreements, market data agreements, index license agreements, platform agreements, and cloud services contracts. Advise business and technology stakeholders on legal risk in connection with the development of new blockchain-based initiatives and serve as a strategic partner to the firm’s blockchain team, helping to guide innovation across a range of client bases and banking products. Partner with business, regulatory, and government relations stakeholders to engage, educate, and help guide regulatory and industry policy globally related to IP, third-party risk management, cybersecurity, crypto-assets, central bank digital currencies, DLT, AI, and other innovative technologies. Work with the strategic investments teams and start-up companies to provide advice and support the development of innovative financial products and services; structure engagements with Universities engaging in cutting-edge, emerging technology-related research. Support the firm’s investments and acquisitions by conducting diligence on technology companies, including with respect to IP, controls, privacy, and technology. Provide advisory and transactional support to the firm’s applied research teams and innovation centers in the technology organization. Provide advisory support on information security topics, including both data protection and cybersecurity matters, to all lines of business and to the firm’s central controls teams. Build cross-functional teams with business, compliance and strategy partners to solve for novel legal issues presented by the application of new technologies in financial services.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree or educational equivalent required. Must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment. 1-2 years of experience as a practicing attorney in a law firm or corporate law environment with experience in one of the Practice Group’s core coverage areas. Strong interest in new and emerging technology solutions and applications. Understanding of the intellectual property issues raised by emerging technologies. Familiarity with global regulatory issues relevant to the use of technology in financial services. Strong analytical, problem-solving and legal research skills. Strong business judgment and strategic thinking. Proven ability to independently identify issues, analyze problems and provide viable solutions. Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, organizational and negotiation skills. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of personnel and management, including senior executives. Ability to work under accurately under pressure, handle deadlines, and manage multiple tasks in a high performance environment. Ability to follow up on assignments in a timely manner and exercise good business judgment. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build consensus across a global matrix organization. Interest in IP, cybersecurity, and/or privacy to work at the intersection of tech and finance, to build transactional expertise, and develop advisory skills.
