Staff Attorney The candidate will handle all functions related to CINA case work from initial intake through representation of clients before all relevant agencies, including: shelter hearings, adjudications, exceptions hearings, Family Involvement Meetings, IEP and educational hearings related to school placement, suspensions and other disciplinary proceedings, TPR mediation, TPR trials, Post Guardianship Hearings; appellate proceedings; and, Harford County monthly juvenile justice committee meetings. Will conduct preliminary and subsequent interviews with clients. Conduct factual investigation and analysis and legal research. Advise clients of results of investigation and research and counsel clients on their options. Prepare cases and represent clients in negotiations, mediations, hearings, trials, and appeals. Work in conjunction with the CINA Paralegal to coordinate local, out of county and out of state client visits. Attend drug court, attend family involvement meetings. Attend IEP meetings. Participate in other necessary functions and duties within the scope of the position, including: working with various community groups and accepting speaking engagements as assigned; and continue professional development and education through attendance at Bureau sponsored training and other programs. Should be admitted to practice in the State of Maryland; or, admitted in another jurisdiction and eligible for admission in the State of Maryland; graduate of an ABA-approved law school. Must have 3+ years of experience in child welfare and/ or family law. Out-of-state should be able and available to take next scheduled Bar exam following date of employment.
