Associate Counsel, Employment Law The candidate provides legal advice and recommendations for action to executives and management regarding matters of intermediate complexity which have or may have a sizable dollar impact on business activities and operations. Primarily advises on employment and labor law matters, including but not limited to hiring, separation, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour, leaves of absence, OSHA , and federal, state, and local employment and labor law compliance; provides training to employees on all matters concerning employment and labor law. Provides advice on matters relating to independent contractors, including but not limited to misclassification. Develops policies and procedures related to employment and labor law; researches and analyzes complex employment and labor law issues and drafts correspondence for submission to management. Provides advice concerning employment and labor law issues to all levels of management and staff of the Corporation and affiliates; resolves claims and disputes prior to litigation; identifies potential legal issues related to business practices and policies and advises client/management. Reviews and interprets legislation; counsels management on handling employment and labor law issues; reviews, drafts and/or revises contracts and agreements as they relate to employment and labor law. May receive specific direction from management or more senior law professionals as to the outcomes, process and schedules expected. Performs other duties as required
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited school of law and 5-7 years of law practice experience in a combination of law firm and corporate settings. Employment law experience is required. Strong legal research skill is essential. Excellent legal and business judgment is essential. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills to effectively interact with legal colleagues, management and Aflac staff is essential.
