Assistant City Attorney The candidate acts as Municipal Court prosecutor for City ordinance violations; acts as legal representative and advisor to the City Council and all City departments and performs legal research, writing and drafting. Should preferably possess strong interpersonal communication skills as well as problem solving and decision making ability. Acts as Municipal Court prosecutor in City ordinance violations. Represents City in jury trials, bench trials, and other various legal matters, including housing code regulations and land use regulations. Utilizes applicable civil remedies to enforce City ordinances and State statutes for property related legal violations. Collaborates with City staff and community stakeholders to engage in proactive problem-solving for neighborhood quality of life issues. Acts as legal advisor and provides legal services to various City departments, boards, and commissions, with special emphasis on providing guidance to inspections staff. Performs general municipal legal research, writing and drafting. Assists in various legal matters, including open records requests. Performs other duties as assigned. Should have JD Degree from an ABA accredited law school. Prior experience in municipal law and prosecution preferred. Must have license to practice law in the State of Wisconsin. Should be admitted to practice law in federal courts at the time of hire or within 1 year of hire date.
