Legal Assistant The candidate responsibilities include: Transcribe material from dictating machines, handwritten notes or typed copy accurately. Proofread handwritten or typed material and legal descriptions. Maintain files and file correspondence, documents, billing statements, etc. currently and accurately; retrieve files and information promptly. Prepare and process legal documents and papers, such as summonses, subpoenas, complaints, appeals, motions, and pretrial agreements. Mail, fax, or arrange for delivery of legal correspondence to clients, witnesses, and court officials. Receive and place telephone calls. Schedule and make appointments. Make photocopies of correspondence, documents, and other printed matter. Organize and maintain documents, and case files. Assist attorneys in collecting information such as employment, medical, and other records. Attend legal meetings, such as client interviews, and take notes. Type office memos. Complete various forms, such as accident reports, trial and courtroom requests, and applications for clients.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have administrative experience, be highly organized with an aptitude for detail, able to work under pressure with or without direct supervision, and be technology savvy. Should preferable have 2 years of experience working as a legal assistant and understand the litigation cycle, however, candidates with other administrative experience or applicable training are encouraged to apply. Should have excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft products. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent oral and written communications skills are required. Must have effective and positive inter-personal communications with clients, attorneys and non-attorney staff.
