Senior Counsel
The candidate will support the heads of legal and operations departments in the design and development of programs, policies, and practices to maintain the company’s compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Direct, regularly review, and revise all corporate policies and procedures on compliance activities. Refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) that are related to inspections, audit, and all regulatory compliance considerations for all business lines. Develop and maintain robust internal auditing processes to ensure compliance across all states and municipalities where licenses are held. Direct the process of submitting data and documents to appropriate federal and state agencies in compliance with reporting requirements. Provide initial and annual re-training to all Regulatory Compliance Specialists and staff in areas in partnership with the legal team. Perform annual auditing of compliance programs, including development of corrective and preventative action plans as needed. Lead the communication with regulatory agencies regarding pre-submission strategies, potential regulatory pathways, compliance requirements, or clarification and follow-up of submissions under review. Analyze regulatory deficiencies or complaints and make recommendations regarding their correction. Interpret regulatory rules or rule changes and ensure that they are communicated through corporate policies and procedures, including communication with General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel. Assist with technical review of data or reports that will be incorporated into regulatory submissions to assure scientific rigor, accuracy, and clarity of presentation. Advise project teams on subjects such as pre-market/pre-inspection/pre-license regulatory requirements, export and labeling requirements, or other regulatory compliance issues. Maintain current knowledge base of existing and emerging regulations, standards, or guidance documents. Participate in ongoing education and professional development opportunities. Work collectively and respectfully with other team members. Additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have 3-6 years of corporate or litigation experience. Experience in highly regulated industries or cannabis is a plus. Arizona Bar membership is required. Knowledge of Arizona’s cannabis legislation, or similar legislation in other states, is desirable. Demonstrated problem-solving skills are must. Excellent academic record and excellent written and oral communication skills, and leadership capabilities are needed. Juris Doctor is critical.
