Legal Assistant Immigration Intern Summer Interns will work under the supervision of staff attorneys and legal assistants. Responsibilities will vary depending on the applicant's interests and the program needs. Will learn basic interviewing skills through client interviews and will also learn the foundations of immigration law. Responsibilities may include: Assist immigration attorneys in drafting requests for records and requests for certificates for U Nonimmigrant Status. Translate documents such as birth certificates and informational posters between English and Spanish. Conduct intake interviews with prospective clients by telephone. Provide information and referrals to clients seeking assistance outside of areas of law. Assist staff attorneys on immigration matters, client follow-up and administrative tasks. (Optional): Assist in organizing and running our “Client Network” support group.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Undergraduate or graduate student. Good interpersonal and organizational skills, self-starter and highly motivated. Interest in social justice, immigrant rights, domestic violence issues or women’s issues. Knowledge of immigration law helpful. Ability to work collaboratively and independently. Fluency in Spanish highly desired, as well as other foreign language skills.
