ProfileAssistant Attorney General I-III Duties: The candidate performs entry level to moderately complex legal work for the Office of the Attorney General - Antitrust Division. Work involves providing legal advice, counsel, and assistance; investigating antitrust matters and representing the State's interest in antitrust in both state and federal courts. Works under close to general supervision, with minimal to limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Conducts entry level to complex antitrust and related litigation in both state and federal courts. Initiates and conducts antitrust and related law investigations, including directing investigator and economist activity. Provides antitrust and related information to state and local governments. Performs all phases of civil litigation of antitrust cases including the drafting of petitions, motions, pleadings, orders, briefs, discovery and memorandum. Performs or directs legal research and report findings and conclusions. Represents the Office of the Attorney General before state or federal district and appellate courts. Prepares or coordinates the preparation of legal briefs, pleadings and other legal documents. Provides legal advice, counsel and assistance to client state agencies, local prosecutors or law enforcement entities. Assists in or coordinates others in preparing cases for trial. Analyzes entry level to moderately complex factual and legal issues and develops evidence for filing of antitrust cases. Communicates with representatives of state agencies and consumers. Performs related work as assigned. Maintains relevant knowledge of antitrust matters. Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule. Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information. Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity. Duties for Assistant Attorney General II (AAG): All of the above functions for an AAG I and manages a high volume of litigation cases and investigations. Duties for Assistant Attorney General III: All of the above functions for an AAG II and assists with training less tenured staff.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications for Assistant Attorney General I: The candidate should have graduated from accredited law school with a J.D. degree and be licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas. Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. Experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: antitrust, complex civil litigation, commercial litigation. Knowledge of antitrust law and legal principles and practices.
Qualifications for Assistant Attorney General II: All of the above qualifications for Assistant Attorney General I and 1 year of full-time experience as a licensed attorney.
Qualifications for Assistant Attorney General III: All of the above qualifications for Assistant Attorney General II and 1 additional year full-time experience as a licensed attorney.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in antitrust matters or other document-intensive complex civil litigation. Knowledge of laws and legal principles and practices relevant to Texas and federal antitrust and trade regulations statutes. Background in microeconomics and/or statistics.
