Legal Assistant III - District Court The candidate will record and maintain all District Court criminal cases by use of computer entries and hard file copies for accurate case status information. Process OPA motions and serve copies of said motions/requests to defense counsel and appropriate court, file and maintain a copy in our hard file. Review all incoming legal pleadings regarding District Court cases, determine if any action is necessary from APAs, and distribute motions and requests to APA. Assist defendants, defense attorneys and their staff with regards to the location of court files, furnishing copies of police reports and answering questions with regards to court files. Review all District Court schedules, compile appropriate case files, record the court case number in file, determine that all pertinent documents and correspondence have been filed, and distribute completed docket to the assigned APA. Prepare and distribute Writs, Forensic Criminal Responsibility Orders and other court orders as required by APA, Court or Police Agencies at the District Court level. Provide weekend and holiday coverage for the Charging Specialist on a rotating basis; and provide coverage as needed for the Receptionist for breaks or time off. Assist with scanning closed felony case files and prepare for recycling/destruction.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have High school diploma. 2 years of degree and/or 5 years of experience working in the criminal justice system is preferred. Working knowledge of the criminal justice system required. Clerical skills & computer data entry and retrieval essential. Maintain excellent rapport with the public as well as police & court personnel.
