Public Finance Tax Attorney
The candidate will be conducting tax-related due diligence to support the tax exemption or other tax advantage of municipal bonds; drafting tax-related closing certifications and agreements; advising attorneys and clients regarding tax-favored structuring of municipal debt financings; assisting attorneys and clients with arbitrage rebate compliance; representing clients in examinations of bond issues by the Internal Revenue Service; providing advice concerning tax accounting of bond payments such as matters relating to bond discount and bond premium; assisting with tax-related matters concerning interest rate swap transactions; researching changes in tax law and preparing white papers or other informational documents for internal and external distribution.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have 3+ years of experience in municipal finance or tax law generally, but recent law school and LL.M. in taxation graduates with a strong interest in public finance tax law (sometimes referred to as “103 tax” law after Section 103 of the Internal Revenue Code relating to tax-exempt bonds) are desired. Must demonstrate an interest in tax law and a willingness to learn tax issues relating to public finance. Must be proactive and will be expected to work with lawyers located in multiple offices and clients throughout the country. Should have a strong academic background and possess excellent research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
