Job Overview

A law firm is seeking a dedicated and experienced Mid-level Employment Attorney to join their team in Oakland, CA. The successful candidate will represent employers in various legal settings, providing comprehensive employment counseling and defending clients in complex litigation matters. This role requires a highly skilled attorney with extensive knowledge of federal and state employment laws, particularly within California.

Duties

  • Represent employers in court, arbitration, before administrative agencies, and at mediations on class/collective actions, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage, and hour matters.
  • Defend clients in Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) matters.
  • Draft and respond to pleadings and discovery.
  • Draft and argue motions in court.
  • Take and defend depositions.
  • Provide employment counseling on federal and state employment laws as needed.
  • Manage cases from start to finish, directing the work of associate attorneys and paralegals when necessary.
  • Think strategically and creatively while offering practical counsel to clients.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission and good standing membership with the California Bar.
  • A minimum of 5 years of employment litigation experience.
  • Experience with class actions and PAGA matters is preferred.
  • Strong command of Federal and California state labor and employment laws.
  • Prior experience taking and defending depositions and arguing motions in court.
  • Outstanding research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • A self-starter with strong case management abilities.
  • Ability to set a course of action and lead associate attorneys and paralegals when needed.
  • Capacity to think strategically and creatively, providing practical legal advice to clients.

Education

  • JD from an Accredited Law School.

Certifications

  • Must be admitted and a member in good standing of the California Bar.
