Profile

Director, Federal Government Affairs and Policy The candidate will help develop and maintain relationships at the federal level to advance Sight Sciences’ public policy and political objectives to provide internal stakeholders with input as to how the external political and legislative climate will impact the company’s goals and objectives. Identify key regulatory, payment and policy issues. Develop and implement action plans to effectively manage those issues, including advocacy, communications, and coalition management. Participate various medical and industry association committees/groups as appropriate. Articulate and interpret the company’s mission, values and business principles to Congress, Executive Branch, Agencies, Associations. Develop, implement, and execute advocacy efforts for SS policy objectives through direct, SS stake holder, trade association and coalition lobbying linked closely to SS business opportunities and risk mitigation. Cultivate and nurture solid relationships with Members of Congress and their Develop champions on issues that are important to SS and the industry. Educate Members and their staffs on SS and industry legislative priorities. Build SS reputation among policy and decision-makers, and influencers to protect and promote SS business interests. Initiate, plan and implement Member of Congress visiting with SS executives and business leaders in Washington, at the facility or headquarters. Actively participate and take leadership role in coalitions and organizations important to SS businesses e.g. MDMA, AAO, OOSS, AGS, ASCRS and issue coalitions in Washington. Communicate regularly with Executive team (can expand). Timing TBD, develop a PAC in coordination with legal.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in political science or health-related discipline. MBA or J.D. is strongly preferred. Have working knowledge of pending legislation, regulations and/or rules impacting physician & facility reimbursement for medical devices, pharma/device combination products and pharmaceuticals. Strong existing relationships with relevant government officials (elected, political appointees and career civil service) and public policy think tanks across the political spectrum. Should have 10 years of experience working on healthcare issues in the legislative or executive branch of government and/or at a medical device / biopharma company or relevant trade association. Proven experience inability to influence public policy appropriately and compliantly for the betterment of patients, and healthcare providers while achieving corporate federal strategic objectives. Proven bi-partisan relationships with an ability to develop bi-partisan coalitions. Prior experience in ophthalmology is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of the legislative process and the administrative rulemaking process at relevant federal government agencies, e.g., HHS, FDA, CMS. Strong understanding of federal healthcare programs, including Medicare and Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, 21st Century Cures Act, and key issues including intellectual property, trade, and tax policy. Familiarity with the Lobbying Disclosure Act and the formation and management of future political action committee (PAC) if the company decides to create one. Proficient with Microsoft applications, including Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects in parallel that meet deadlines and within approved budget. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are absolutely required. Strategic thinking and analytical thinking with an ability to synthesize complex or diverse information. Attention to detail and demonstration of accuracy and thoroughness.
