62000.00Staff Attorney The candidate will be responsible for accepting all termination and adoption cases assigned as well as be responsible for preparing, researching and presenting cases for termination and adoption in Orphans’ Court while working extensively with the CYF staff and outside contracts. Will be reviewing the termination and adoption referrals prior to the preparation of the respective petitions, as well as preparing and filing petitions after receiving them. Preparing and filing all motions, petitions, responses, discovery, etc., necessary for appropriately representing the Agency in the proceedings. Meeting with caseworker witnesses in advance of hearings and adequately preparing them to testify. Attending all court hearings, arguments, conferences, etc., as scheduled in each case. Handling all appellate matters as necessary, including but not limited to, writing and filing briefs and preparing and filing all motions. Communicating with termination, adoption and other caseworkers and Agency personnel to prepare cases. Maintaining an active status in the Pennsylvania Bar by taking necessary CLE credits. Attending meetings within the Agency or in the community to disseminate information relative to termination or adoptions.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have J.D. Degree and a member in good standing in the Pennsylvania Bar, plus at least 3+ years of legal experience including courtroom practice and knowledge of Pennsylvania juvenile law and termination and adoption law. Must have extensive background in court preparation and presentation and good interpersonal skills, along with knowledge of pertinent laws and regulations regarding Juvenile Court/Orphans’ Court are also essential.
