Attorney / Assistant Legal Counsel - Labor and Employment The candidate will be advising Human Relations and business leaders on collective bargaining agreements, union grievance and arbitration proceedings, and company response to unionizing campaigns. Will be advising Human Relations and business leaders on all employment law areas, including company employment policies, performance management and termination matters, discrimination claims, ADA, EEOC, FMLA, and other compliance areas, worker compensation and unemployment compensation matters, and wage and hour matters. Reviewing, negotiating and drafting contracts and associated documents related to the firm's's business activities. Managing, and advising management, on litigation and dispute matters for firm's. Providing legal advice to management and company personnel on various other matters facing firm's, including commercial matters, antitrust matters, advertising law matters, and food law matters, among others. Advising and collaborating with senior management on significant various legal issues impacting ongoing business activities and future opportunities to facilitate risk assessment and pragmatic business decision-making, and developing viable business solutions to potential legal problems. Coordinating and communicating with key functional groups within firm.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Juris Doctorate degree, or equivalent, from an accredited law school. Must have 3 years of substantive labor and employment experience with a corporate legal department or a nationally recognized law firm. Experience in employment law areas including wrongful termination, discrimination, wage & hour, ADA, EEOC, FMLA, workerâ€™s compensation, unemployment claims, and similar matters is required. Experience in labor law areas including response to unionizing campaigns, collective bargaining agreement negotiation and interpretation, grievance and arbitration processes, and similar matters is required. Experience handling labor and employment dispute matters before federal, state courts and administrative agencies is required. Litigation experience is preferred. Basic knowledge of Canadian labor and employment law is preferred.
