Legal Staff
The candidate will be responsible for litigation support and assistance to staff attorneys to enhance housing stability, including eviction prevention, improve safety for domestic violence victims through assistance with orders of protection and other family law problems, and increase economic security through consumer fraud prevention and assistance with public benefits, including unemployment issues. Process intakes, draft pleadings, contact clients, and generally support attorneys in preparation for court. Should preferably have degree or certification in paralegal studies, and 1+ years of experience as a paralegal consider exceptionally well qualified entry-level candidates. Should have, or quickly be able to develop, expertise in housing and statewide resources available to low-income persons. Must be highly organized, able to effectively use computer technology and remote communications systems, including shared on-line workspaces and web meeting and videoconferencing software, be familiar with electronic document tracking and Microsoft products, and able to: draft legal documents, maintain client information in a database, maintain client files, communicate successfully and respectfully with clients and attorneys, arrange and coordinate community education events. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, handle volume mailings and have the skills to build collaborative relationships with the staff in multiple offices and the community served by NMLA. Proficiency in Spanish or a relevant Native American language is a plus. Application Deadline Date: 8 July 2022.
