Legal Assistant Internship- Immigration The candidate will assist interns to apply for work-study or school credit available from their law schools. Will assist immigration attorneys in drafting requests for records and requests for certificates for U Nonimmigrant Status. Translate documents such as birth certificates and informational posters between English and Spanish. Conduct intake interviews with prospective clients by telephone. Provide information and referrals to clients seeking assistance outside of our areas of law. Assist staff attorneys on immigration matters, client follow-up and administrative tasks. May assist in organizing and running the “Client Network” support group.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should be an Undergraduate or graduate student. Good interpersonal and organizational skills, self-starter and highly motivated. Demonstrated interest in social justice, immigrant rights, domestic violence issues or women’s issues. Knowledge of immigration law helpful but not required. Ability to work collaboratively and independently. Fluency in Spanish highly desired, as well as other foreign language skills. The position requires a commitment of at least 10 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks.
