Staff Attorney The candidate will advance community driven planning, development and litigation strategies to promote affordable housing, prevent displacement, create jobs and expand early care and education services. Specifically, the Staff Attorney will be responsible for: Working intensively with community-based coalitions to strengthen coalition capacity and develop and implement legal and policy strategies to advance equitable development and address gentrification and displacement, Providing direct legal services to help tenants groups, community-based organizations and coalitions, including legal research, advocacy, comment letters, and legal education. Actively participating as a member of the Community Development team in all aspects of its work (e.g. advocacy, litigation and transactional practice areas). Adhering to program and case handling policies, procedures and standards of practice, as well as the highest professional and ethical standards, and Other duties as assigned. Will also help strengthen the Project’s relationships with pro bono attorneys and law student volunteers. This position may also involve community outreach and presentations to educate our clients and community partners in areas of legal expertise.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must be licensed to practice in the State of California. Experience with community development law or land use preferred. Must have experience with the provision of legal services to strengthen low-income communities. Should have experience working with and advising community-based coalitions. Must have creative problem-solving skills. should have excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Fluency in Spanish preferred.
