Foreign Tax Auditor Duties: Learn audit issues, work papers, and applicable authority in “trainee” status. Participate in team audits of small multi-state corporations to verify the accuracy of returns. Conduct and complete at least one audit independently. Prepare delinquent returns, as necessary, for non-filers to ensure compliance with South Carolina corporate income and license fee tax laws. Assist in preparing and submitting professional audit reports, which include a detail of the basis and justification for adjustments proposed to the taxpayer’s liability, including authority. Explain audit results to taxpayer in a clear and professional manner. Review tax returns, company filing history, financial statements and other related information to identify underreported income and potential audit issues for purposes of audit selection. Complete research and training to improve audit skills and knowledge related to corporate income tax law and returns. Complete administrative tasks including, time entry and daily work reports, travel reports and itineraries.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration, with 18+ semester hours in accounting or auditing subjects (up to six of these 18 hours may be in business law, principles of finance, or federal income tax). Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning. Experience: Requires one of the following: Four years of professional work experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation or analysis. 2 years of experience and a masters in taxation, a CPA license, or a law degree. Technical Knowledge: An understanding of the application of accounting principles, methods, and procedures to the South Carolina Tax Acts and Regulations. PREFERRED: CPA license or Law Degree.
