Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a Real Estate Finance Counsel for its practice, based in New York. The ideal candidate will possess broad-based commercial real estate finance experience, with the ability to manage sophisticated transactions. This position involves both lender and borrower-side representation across a wide range of real estate finance transactions, such as senior mortgage loans, construction loans, leverage loans, mezzanine financing, and A-Note and co-lender transactions. The firm’s clients include commercial banks, private equity investors, REITs, developers, and other participants in the real estate investment market.

Location:

  • New York, NY

Duties:

  • Manage and oversee commercial real estate finance transactions, including senior mortgage loans, construction loans, leverage loans, mezzanine financing, and preferred debt and equity investments.
  • Represent both lenders and borrowers in real estate finance deals.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex financing documents.
  • Coordinate and manage all aspects of transactions, including deal structure, client communication, and team coordination.
  • Work with colleagues to deliver comprehensive legal solutions to clients in the real estate investment market.
  • First chair transactions, lead deals, and manage client relationships with support from a talented team.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience in commercial real estate finance, with a focus on sophisticated transactions.
  • Experience representing both lender and borrower sides in real estate finance deals.
  • Proven ability to manage and lead transactions, including drafting and negotiating key documents.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Motivated and able to work well both independently and as part of a team.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the state(s) where the position is located.

Skills:

  • Expertise in commercial real estate finance transactions.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage complex transactions and maintain client relationships.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking.
