ProfileDeputy Solicitor General in Olympia or Seattle The candidate will be responsible for United States Supreme Court practice, appellate assistance programs, coordinating amicus briefs, preparing Attorney General Opinions, writing ballot measure materials, coordinating statewide legal issues, coordinating certain litigation involving the federal government, and at times directly representing the state in significant matters. Assist attorneys throughout the Attorney General's Office with their appeals, including reviewing and editing briefs and preparing attorneys for oral arguments. Be responsible for handling certain appeals (including briefing and argument). Sit on moot court panels. Prepare amicus briefs. Assist in preparing and reviewing Attorney General Opinions and ballot measure materials. Review significant legal advice prepared by others and assist in advising on complex legal issues, sometimes on short deadlines.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have graduated from a law school accredited by the ABA or completed the firm's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program and be licensed to practice law in Washington state. Must be committed to public service as demonstrated by an applicant's background, talents, attitude, and enthusiasm for public law practice. Excellent analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills. Some appellate experience. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of colleagues. Interest and ability to coach and mentor others.
