Patent Prosecution and Counseling Junior Agent
Candidate would have 2-5 years patent prosecution experience (law firm and/or PTO) and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry; other specialties or an M.S. with appropriate experience may be considered, but must show competence in understanding chemical structures and properties. PTO Registration is preferred, and must be admitted to and in good standing with the relevant Bar for the office where they will be resident. Will consider experienced technical specialists for the patent agent position with appropriate experience and ability to sit for the patent bar. All candidates must also have excellent academic credentials and strong writing skills and analytical ability. Industry experience is a plus.

Treat support staff better so that there is more consistency in this area. Give people more opportunities to expand their roles, and make sure these people are selected based on merit. Help IT do their jobs better.

Pros : Pretty good pay and benefits. Stable client base. Doesn't suffer as much from typical big-firm problems, to the extent you might think. Looks good on a resume.
Cons : Too much emphasis on inter-office politics. Use of technology could be better. Lots of turnover in the support staff; support staff seems kind of poorly treated in general, actually. Advancement can be difficult.
