Staff Attorney, Reproductive Freedom Project RESPONSIBILITIES: Litigate constitutional and statutory cases on a wide range of reproductive rights related issues in the trial and appellate courts, and in state and federal courts. Conduct legal research and write legal memoranda. Analyze legislation for potential litigation. Develop new cases and identify and work with potential plaintiffs and witnesses. Work with and advise the the union state affiliates on reproductive rights litigation, legislation, and advocacy. Work closely with legal and non-legal program staff, particularly legislative, communications, and advocacy staff members to advance reproductive rights and justice. Develop relationships with other advocates, lawyers, and potential clients. Engage in public speaking, including to the media, at conferences, and other speaking engagements. Supervise paralegals, administrative assistants, legal fellows, and law students. Travel as required for litigation, conferences, speaking engagements, and client development. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity within the office using a personal approach that values all individuals and respects differences in regards to race, ethnicity, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability and socio-economic circumstance. Commitment to work collaboratively and respectfully toward resolving obstacles and/or conflicts.

Qualification and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS: JD Degree and 5+ years of legal experience. Individuals with significantly more experience are also encouraged to apply. Those with 10+ years of experience will have the title Senior Staff Attorney. If not currently admitted to the New York Bar, candidate must be admitted to the bar of another state and agree to become admitted to the New York Bar within one year of hire. Familiarity with reproductive rights and other civil liberties issues is desirable; commitment to those issues is essential. Superior analytical skills and excellent research and writing skills are required. Demonstrated ability to write and to speak clearly and persuasively are essential. Self-motivated, diligent, and able to meet strict deadlines while under pressure. Ability to work with a wide range of people and foster a team environment.
