Paralegal for Staff Counsel Responsibilities: Prepares and sends out initial discovery package to Plaintiffs and co-defendants including the answer, interrogatories, requests for production and notices of depositions. Diaries and drafts routine motions to move discovery along at an aggressive pace. Performs investigative duties including the interviewing of the client and possible witnesses who were interviewed by claims prior to suit. Performs as an alter-ego to the attorney, answering routine inquiries from claims and the client. Acts as a point person assisting in routine trial and arbitration preparation. Coordinates and prepares responses to subpoenas seeking documents and other information. Assists with preparation of discovery responses in litigation. Administers the litigation hold and electronic discovery processes in collaboration with the Company’s Office of the General Counsel. Performs various administrative tasks such as preparing litigation reports, creating/ maintaining legal databases and document archives and responding to routine inquiries.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: 3+ years’ related experience. Broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of particular field of specialization to the completion of moderately difficult assignments. Works well with others and establishes sound working relationships usually works with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters. Has latitude for un-reviewed action or decision. May be assigned to a particular project and be accountable for reporting on project status. Computer (MS Office) and word processing proficiency.
Desired Skills and Experience: Able to work in a team environment with other attorneys, adjusters and other claims professionals and support staff. Associates degree in paralegal studies from an America Bar approved program or certificate from an approved paralegal program. Strong organizational skills / Ability to prioritize tasks. Good communication skills, written and verbal. Demonstrates a willingness to do whatever is asked and stretches to meet goals. Familiarity with Court system and civil procedure. Familiarity with tort and insurance practice and laws. Familiarity with the Internet and other sources for investigative purposes. Ability to summarize medical and other records. Ability to draft substantive motions. Flexibility and ability to work within a team environment.
