Patent Paralegal
The candidate will assist with all aspects of global patent prosecution, including: Preparing, proofing, and filing new patent applications and office responses. Completing patent formalities, such as assignments, declarations, and information disclosure statements. Filing documents using USPTO and PCT systems. Docketing and monitoring deadlines. Managing case files, correspondence, and invoices. Generating reports, work-flow procedures, and templates. Corresponding with global outside patent counsel, as appropriate. Support Company’s patent attorneys/agents with other tasks, as required. Work closely with Company’s science and engineering teams on IP-related matters. Respond to requests from customers (both internal and external), collaborators, and investors. Contribute to the development and implementation of Company’s global IP strategy. Develop and maintain IP-related systems and infrastructure. Perform basic patent searches such as identifying immediate patent family members and English language equivalents. Review select presentations prior to public disclosure. Champion best practices for confidentially, trade secrets, and other IP-related matters.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Bachelor’s degree. Should have 3+ years of experience working as a patent prosecution administrator, legal assistant, or paralegal in a law firm or in-house legal department. Paralegal Certificate from an ABA accredited paralegal school, preferably a Patent Paralegal. Certification, is a plus but not required. Strong working knowledge of US, PCT, and foreign patent systems and requirements. Experience in science or engineering and/or trademark prosecution desirable, although not required. Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Acrobat, Outlook, and IP docketing systems. Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to multi-task and prioritize. Creativity and passion for advancing sustainable biotechnologies.
