Associate General Counsel - Head Of Investor Services
The candidate will participate in the most complex legal engagements undertaken by the department, working individually and through others to shape strategy, manage risk and solve issues in the context of ongoing business and the development of cutting edge products and solutions. Oversee all relevant law office operations including work allocation, budgeting, as well as hiring, supervision and professional development of staff. Assist the global head of legal support to Investor Services in the development of function-wide policies and procedures as well as represent the firm as general advisor on specific issues or transactions as necessary. Lead a group of approximately 15 (predominately other attorneys), to provide effective and efficient delivery of legal services and support in the context of ongoing client servicing, new business development and the creation of new products and technology. Act in player/coach role, leading a group of 15 subject matter experts, transactional lawyers and other legal professionals in support of the firm’s Investor Services line of business, including support for custody, asset servicing, fund administration and account, middle office services, capital markets, fintech and digital and data services. Allocate work among the team. In coordination with business leaders, work to meet business needs by continually assessing legal support needs and assessing and allocating available resources, engaging outside counsel strategically to fill gaps, while leading the team in adjusting to changing needs. Champion the professional development of a team of highly accomplished legal personnel. Assist in the development of budgeting requirements and manage to budget. Provide technologically savvy advice on data licensing, intellectual property, trade secrets, contracting and product development in the context of a dynamic environment in which we seek to secure and gain technological advantages in the delivery of our entire suite of services and to develop new or improved services in the financial technology and data services areas. This is an area of strategic importance to the organization. Apply experience in the commercial and financial technology innovation space, acting as a leader in supporting product development and delivery, solving cutting edge legal issues in areas such as digital and data, providing legal project management and developing such capabilities within others in the department. Provide support to global custody services, by managing the team that provides legal services in support of our global sub-custody network and asset servicing effort. Manage the team which provides legal services to our Markets business, including foreign exchange and securities lending agency services. Provide support to middle office services and technology solutions in connection with all of the above services. Keep abreast of legal and regulatory developments affecting the financial services industry generally and the areas within your scope of responsibility at firm's, including through regular participation in industry associations; analyze impact on the business and assist in implementation. Participate as a member of the Legal Department’s senior management team. Provide day to day and strategic legal advice on all aspects of Investor Services, with a focus on support functions based in the U.S. Advise on business practice and is responsible for foreseeing and protecting the company against legal risks and maintaining its operations within the scope established by law. Manage team with regard to above functions. Draft, review and negotiate relevant documentation. Engage with product development team and manage legal and regulatory due diligence and advice for new product development and implementation. Identify and analyze legal and regulatory developments affecting the industry and firm. Track and analyze, present and engage others in legal developments related to primary areas of responsibility.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must be a graduate of an accredited law school with demonstrated high academic achievement. Should have 12+ years’ experience as an attorney and admitted into a state bar. Must have excellent knowledge of bank and financial technology activities. Prior law firm and in-house experience a plus. FinTech experience highly preferred.
