Job Title: Business Reorganization And Creditors' Rights Partner

Job Overview: A prestigious law firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking an accomplished and experienced attorney to join its Business Reorganization and Creditors' Rights practice as a Partner. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in representing creditors, secured lenders, and asset purchasers in various legal transactions, including workouts, restructurings, and business reorganizations.

Duties:

  • Represent lenders and creditors in bankruptcy cases, asset-based lending, foreclosures, and debtor-in-possession financing transactions.
  • Advise clients on Illinois commercial mortgage foreclosure, forbearance, and receivership law.
  • Handle personal property foreclosure, the Fraudulent Transfer Act, and other remedies under Article 9 of the UCC.
  • Assist in investor representation, financial sponsor transactions, exchange offers, debt-for-equity swaps, and prepackaged/prearranged Chapter 11 cases.
  • Lead loan restructurings, including debt-to-equity conversions and bankruptcy litigation.
  • Act as a business advisor, guiding clients through a full range of legal matters across their business life cycle.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience representing creditors, lenders, and asset purchasers in workouts, restructurings, and business reorganizations.
  • Expertise in Illinois commercial mortgage foreclosure, receivership law, and UCC remedies.
  • Knowledge of bankruptcy law and financial transactions, including Chapter 11 cases and loan restructurings.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
  • A portable book of business is essential.

Education:

  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • A background in business or finance is advantageous but not required.

Certifications:

  • Currently licensed to practice law in Illinois, or qualified for comity with an acceptable UBE score, or willing to sit for the Illinois bar exam.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • High-level negotiation and advisory skills in complex business transactions.
  • Ability to lead and develop a practice, including business development.
